Beautiful Skin

Our skin is a reflection of our internal health on all levels. When our three bodies (physical, intellectual, emotional/spiritual) are integrated and in harmony, radiance emanates from within. Let’s take a look at each aspect of the self and indulge in ways to maximize vitality in each area so that our outside reflects our inside in the way that we desire, beautifully.

Physical Body

Every single cell requires nutrients to do their work efficiently. Nutrients entering into the cells and waste flowing out of the cells in an effortless way, is the only way our cells can remain vital. Processed foods not only rob our cells of their energy to do work efficiently, they also create the burden of optimal elimination of waste from each and every cell – not just the liver, not just bowels, not just the kidney/bladder – but every cell from the brain to the heart to the bones etc. Hydration facilitates this movement to and from the cells and helps keep the lymph system efficiently removing the normal byproducts of metabolism which are also considered waste. Eating foods closest to nature will always and forever be the ideal fuel for our bodies. When we sleep, our bodies heal. Without optimal rest, our bodies are in breakdown mode. Exercise enhances healthy hormones, stimulates metabolism which again, enhances nutrients in and waste out of the body.

Intellectual body

Our mind often knows what is needed, but often prevents follow through. It might simply be an automatic pattern. An example is someone who knows that sugar is unhealthy for their body but they gain comfort in the taste as well as the freedom to enjoy the pleasure. The journey is to help the intellectual body break patterns of excuses, laziness, traps (made up stories or trauma) and stubbornness. A great way to find out how strong your emotional body is over your intellectual body is to write down your goals for the day of self care including the ones listed at the end of this article, and at the end of the day review and see how well you followed through on your intellectual desires. If follow through was not strong, the emotional body is in charge. It takes baby steps as well as time to create new patterns.

Emotional/Spiritual Body

The emotional body embodies our spirit. The spirit that governs us is our inspirational drive. Our spiritual connection is the driver of our emotions. If we make an intellectual decision that “I won’t eat any sugar today” and we break that promise, we feel less inspired and therefore sad or mad. This is why I find it essential to work with individuals on the subconscious mind as it is the driver, but often suppressed into a place where we can barely access it. Unwinding patterns of self denial, which are really knee-jerk responses to our world, is critical to aligning with optimal self care. In fact, if you look at Louise Hay’s book, You Can Heal Your Life, she connects the emotional patter ‘old, buried guck’ as a probable cause to skin problems.

As you desire radiant skin, remember the beauty and complexity of your entire being as you contemplate the following actions or steps towards creating it.

A quote from Abraham (www.abrahamhicks.com) may help understand the importance of creating harmony in all of our bodies for a goal to manifest, “Take the time to line up the Energy first, and action becomes inconsequential. If you don’t take the time to line up the Energy, if you don’t find the feeling place of what you’re looking for, not enough action in the world will make any difference.”

Action steps to creating beautiful skin

  1. Drink ½ your body weight in water daily. (Example: An 150 lbs. person would drink 75fl. oz. of water per day)
  2. Eliminate processed foods.
  3. Eat as close to nature as possible.
  4. Poop daily up to three times daily.
  5. Allow optimal rest – 8-10 hours uninterrupted sleep daily.
  6. Move the body daily – consciously bringing some form of exercise to your daily life.
  7. Assist your body’s natural ability to release waste efficiently.
    • Detox powders to start and end your day
    • Antioxidants daily, more when exposed to known toxins (alcohol, caffeine, paint, smoke etc.)
  8. Check hormone levels to make sure there isn’t an underlying condition that needs direct treatment – most commonly Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome in females; high aldosterone levels in men
  9. Optimize nutrients your body needs
    • Multivitamin with lots of B vitamins
    • Fish oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Borage Oil, Flax Seed Oil
    • Regenerate – silica (specific skin nutrient)
    • Vitamin D
  10. Use topical products that are both nurturing to skin and free of chemicals/dyes/toxins.
    • Dr. Bronner’s original liquid soap – only to face, underarms, private areas
    • Beautifying Oil – pure vitamin A oil, mycelized to prevent clogging of pores
    • Castor oil scrub – either fine sea salt or sugar mixed with castor oil as a scrub to body in shower or bath to all skin after using soap on minimal areas needed
