Dr. Ramsey, I have been a diabetic for over 10 years, recently I had to take a physical for a new job and flunked it because my fasting blood sugar was 285, haven’t been taking my meds for the last 6 months or so because I wanted a more natural cure than taking prescribed meds, do you work with diabetics and is there a more natural way to get off the prescription meds?
There are many things that we do to help regulate blood sugar. The first thing before medications or supplements are considered is to make sure that you are eating every three hours. Make sure the meal or snack is made up of both a protein and a carbohydrate. Either food group alone will cause insulin peaks and valleys. Keep portion sizes down, as you will be eating frequently. Some patients get a watch and set it for every three hours to remind them until it becomes a habit. There are supplements to assist as well. Safely, without knowing anything about your overall health would be to use chromium 200 mcg three times daily. Another is American Ginseng in either a tincture or capsule form. There are many other things to do, but this is a great start. Keep a food log along with your sugars so you can best track how your body is metabolizing each meal.
