I am having great difficulty sleeping at night. I go to bed exhausted, but cannot fall asleep and stay asleep. Is there anything you can recommend that I do?

Being exhausted but not being able to sleep tells me that your cortisol pattern is off. This may have to do with hormonal changes, increased stress in your life or anything that affects your endocrine system from a dietary standpoint like caffeine, sugar, alcohol, or too many refined foods. Hopefully this puts you on your specific path to explore the cause first before the treatment. In the meantime I suggest that you start with keeping a gratitude journal each night. Just as you lay down in bed, pull out a spiral pad or journal and write a gratitude for every single event that occurred during the day. Even if something was challenging, find something about the experience that was gratifying. For example, if you were late for a meeting, write that you were grateful for being late as it gave you time to focus on breathing and consciously relaxing anyway. If you had a disagreement, write that you are grateful for the disagreement as it gave you practice in communicating more clearly. If you have difficulty finding gratitude in your day, shoot me another question regarding this. Bless your journey.
