Day to Day Detoxification
All day, every day, each of us is exposed to challenges to our biochemistry. The cells of each organ system have unique requirements to do their jobs. The requirements are things like hydration, nutrients, pH values, enzyme systems etc.— all of these delicate aspects are dependent upon each other to fulfill their job which is in direct communication with the jobs of neighboring cells and systems.
Each cell performs its unique functions and creates in the process of work, waste. This is not unlike any obvious workings in our daily life. We don’t make a meal without having to clean up afterwards. We don’t drive a car without creating waste that accumulates in the environment. We don’t eat food without the need to get rid of waste. It is a natural phenomenon.
Each cell, therefore, has to be able to clean up the mess that it makes by dumping appropriately. There is a major organ system, the liver and lymphatic system that pull the waste out of the body for proper metabolism and elimination. There are natural byproducts of metabolism that will wreak havoc if not properly disposed of, known as free radicals. These build up in the system more abundantly when we expose ourselves to unnatural elements, like pollution, pesticides, artificial dyes and chemicals.
The lymphatic system therefore is essential to prevent exposing our weak spots which may be the nervous system ending up with depression, fatigue or worse, dementia and Alzheimer’s. If our weak spot is our joints, we end up with arthritis with waste buildup. If our weak spot is our heart, we end up with cardiovascular disease of some sort. None of us are free of toxic buildup and we all can use help to give our cells the best chance to work optimally and prevent symptoms and diseases.
The best way to detoxify or cleanse the body on a daily basis is to drink enough water and avoid unnecessary substances by eating as close to nature as possible. There are specific foods that assist in cleansing the most that the USDA has determined to have the greatest potential to assist in toxin removal by assigning them an ORAC value (Oxidant Reduction Absorption Capacity). These foods are primarily fruits (berries and prunes) and vegetables (kale, broccoli and spinach). There are some spices to think of adding to your daily routine like ginger, cumin and marjoram that will boost the ORAC value of any vegetable. These are super foods which maximize free radical damage on your cells.
You can assist the load further by utilizing nutrients, specifically antioxidants to directly impact the health of your cells. My preference is to use whole food sources of antioxidants rather than individual vitamins. Antioxidant Defense is one of my Private Line Products that is superb with an ORAC value of greater than 5000 made up of berries and rosemary. Another product called Detox II is made up of broccoli seed sprouts which push the second phase of our liver detoxification. This is the part that most of us have difficulty with, especially as we age which is why we so much degeneration in the aging population. It is safe and advisable to take both products together to get the greatest cellular protection. If you would like to add vegetable and juice extracts, you can use powders extracted from organic foods and mix with water to get a heavy dose of not just antioxidants, but minerals as well. The product I prefer is made by Designs for Health as all parts of this product are organic and there is not one drop of gluten as is common to green products. Mixing one scoop of each in water with ice is a delightful way to assure that you are getting your recommended five cups of vegetables and fruits daily.
May your aging process be vital and vibrant in every way!
