Dr. Ramsey and the New OTP2 Press Release

News

Scottsdale, Arizona – Pyramid Community Developers and Dr. Ramsey’s Center for Natural Healing Announce Formation of Community Health and Wellness Planning Collaborative
Pyramid Developers, a leader in the planning and development of sustainable, social and environmentally focused master planned projects has joined with Scottsdale based Dr. Theresa Ramsey’s Center For Natural Healing to create OTP2 which stands for “Of the Place, Of the People” reflecting the focus of the collaboration - to provide consulting services for the creation of health and wellness focused sustainable communities.

OTP2 brings together a wide range of planning, design, development and medical professions to comprehensively study and understand existing social and ecosystems, their negative impact on community sustainability and human health. OTP2 works with the client and strives to define innovative, practical design and programmatic solutions to avoid, reduce or reverse the negative health impacts – essentially making sure that new or existing communities are designed and function as healthy places to live. OTP2 recommends implementation programs to maximize health and social wellbeing from the perspective of mental/emotional/financial wellbeing. OTP2 is one of the only consulting groups providing high level services to the real estate industry that are focused on the social aspects of the sustainability movement.

OTP2 believes that sustainability is not a building centric issue – it is people centric and as such a sustainable community must focus on social issues such as connectivity, health and wellbeing of its residents. Mark Stapp, Managing Member of Pyramid stated “Any wildlife biologist will tell you that the health of a species is directly related to the quality of its habitat so the link between the natural and built environment and the health of residents is significant. Add to this and understanding of socio-cultural nuances and it is possible to design places and programs that result in healthier communities”.

OTP2 believes that by knowing conditions and predicting impacts it can help clients determine changes in human settlement patterns and methods and recommend services for residents which avoid or diminish these conflicts and lower the rate of disease and increase overall community health and wellness.

With the real estate industry stalled, many land owners are looking for ways to reposition their projects. Health and wellness is a growing concern of the general population and by designing and implementing programs that specifically and realistically address this, it is possible to differentiate a community and make it a more desirable place to live, creating not only a socially responsible project but also creating a marketing and business advantage.

OTP2 will assist community leaders and land owners understand current patterns and resources and will define geographic and socio-cultural specific plans and programs for creating healthier communities. OTP2 will establish a convergence of health needs and issues with community planning and development to help design, implement and operate sustainable socially responsible health and wellness programs for new as well as existing communities.

There are aspects of human health and disease that are directly determined by factors in the environment - broad collection of aspects from air pollution, noise, water quality, access to exercise, social interactions, food quality, etc; Sustainability requires assessing and controlling factors in the environment that can potentially affect health, knowing a population and designing and operating programs that prevent disease. Land owners, developers, planners, policy makers and proponents of the built environment need to be equally concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect human health – not just “green building” focused or preserving open but looking holistically at the community and individual.

Disease prevention requires a coordinated effort of all aspects of the community design, development and function. “You cannot separate the unique challenges that affect building a community from the actual individual who will be living in that community. At the same time we are offered the opportunity to come together as a community and to support each other as well as the planet at large. This economic crisis serves as a gift for all of us to look at and create what is important to us. The opportunity that we are facing is greater than any other time in history and we must become better because of it, rather than fail as a result of it. Our objective with OTP2 is providing that missing piece to creating sustainable communities – true health and wellness focus and programs.” Dr. Ramsey, Founder of Dr. Ramsey’s Center for Natural Healing.
