Plant Something and Watch It Grow!

Maybe it’s because of the freshness and life that Spring brings (and that I planted seeds and they are sprouting!!)….
Maybe it’s because I’m nesting and very much in love with my husband and our growing family….
Maybe it’s because I’ve moved into a better version of myself over the last year….

Surely it’s all of this and more…. I’ve been keeping a journal since I was in 6th grade. For my blog contribution, I thought I would simply write a journal entry to share my heart with whoever feels like reading about it.

I just want to express my deepest gratitude and love for the life that I get to live. This life is a beautiful work of art; in all its majesty and all of the struggles that come with being alive, the ebb and flow of happiness and sadness can provide an unknown state of joy and peace, when you strive to find the positive growth that floats in the midline.

I have planted a lot of love and compassion, for which I am seeing it be returned and fully blossoming in my life, a metamorphosis if you will. It hasn’t always been easy and surely many tears have been shed along the way, but I’ve come full circle in some specific areas of my life. Out with the old and in with the new!

My perseverance to seek out the best version of myself and the life I live are what have allowed me to come to a state of profound gratitude for my current state of reality, no matter how difficult things can be. Finding the joy in a state of suffering is a skill and takes practice, for which life gives you many opportunities. If you take a moment to reflect on an old wound or a difficult situation, certainly you can most often see the ways that it provided growth.

I have NOT arrived; I am not enlightened or perfect. I simply am an individual who believes in doing right by myself and by others. I plant seeds and watch them grow. Some seeds are good and take off with ease and some are duds that struggle to thrive. Through it all, I do my best to be present and aware of my behaviors and actions, continually examining how the various seeds that I plant are shaping my life and thus are affecting the many people I interact with.

Herein lie the lessons and also the difficult work that comes with being truly honest with yourself. What are you planting? Do you speak of joy but walk around angry? Do you preach forgiveness yet hold onto to old pain? What do you want for yourself? Are you watching life pass you by without taking a moment to be sincerely grateful for the many blessings that your life has to offer? Are you loving yourself well and going after the things you want in life?

It’s a good season for reevaluating goals that many put forth in the New Year. Life is literally in bloom. There is so much life force present to harness and realize your dreams. Think about what you want and where you want to go. Focus on being grateful for what you have, rather than waiting to get to a certain point to be outright happy. Find the beauty and the teaching that is present in the difficulties that you may face. Most of us are pretty good at finding what’s wrong with a situation, but few of us seem to water and allow the seeds of happiness to flourish. You deserve to be happy in the depths of your soul, so happy that most days life sings sweet songs to you and struggles you face come with a deeper sense that growth is happening and all will be okay.

So, go plant something lovely for yourself and watch it grow!
